There’s more than one way to exercise. An exercise routine works to keep one fit and (IMO) better able to face the day. So I try to take time for regular exercise.
Emergency Social Services needs to exercise too – to keep us prepared and better able to face the emergencies when they come along. To that end, our team joined with another team to do an exercise in setting up a Reception Center.
We met at 9:30, got our debriefing and instructions, set out to plan the space to use it effectively, put on our vests to delineate who belonged to which team,
set up the tables and chairs
a first aid station
After a review with the director, and making some changes, we had lunch – then practiced registering each other.
All in all a great day, good practice, lots learned, better prepared if and when….
On our way over to the exercise, we passed a field with these clumps of daffodils – a nice pick-me-up when we were expecting rain
It’s Palm Sunday, may your day be bright with the remembrance of the glorious arrival of Jesus.

I wrote down numbers, related to each entrant for the give-away, put them in a container, mixed them around and drew out #2!!!
So QMM will be getting a few goodies in the mail. Congratulations, Peggy – you’re the person who has been my blog friend almost from day one, and I’m please to be able to share my celebration with you. You surprised me when you told me your favorite color is mauve, I though for sure it would be pink, but now that I know the person, and the color, I can proceed to put the package together. It’ll take a few days, maybe even a week or two, so don’t hold your breath waiting for it to arrive in the mail. Please email me your mailing address, for when this will be ready and I’ll actually email you back when it’s posted. Congrats again!
Everybody else – thank you so much for entering the giveaway draw, and for celebrating my first milestone with me. I wish that I could give something to each and every one of you, but time is the enemy right now.
This past week, the quilt projects have piled up – two challenges that I’ve decided to do, a BOM that’s just started, a gift – all of a sudden I’ve more to do than I have time. But, eventually…..
Here’s a pic of the blocks I got together this weekend
It’s a Wonky Log Cabin – everybody said how quickly it would build – well, actually 5 hours for 12 blocks, at least at my speed – I actually thought wasn’t all that fast. 24 blocks later, and the next step is to sash and border. I think that’s next weekend’s project – in between need to get going on the Give-away!!
Today, I think we’re going to try to get out in the sunshine and do a little geo-caching (so I can actually put something in the other blog!!).
Have a beautiful Sunday everyone.

It’s been a busy couple of weeks, and our lovely DIL’s birthday almost passed by me. It didn’t really, we had a lovely dinner with her family to celebrate with her, a couple of days after the actual day. But I really wanted to share with you all the joy that this lovely young woman has brought into our lives.
M came into our lives almost three years ago, a few months after DS2 started to date her. For such a young person, she’s been through a lot of change and disruption in her life. Born in Croatia, her family fled that country during the wars when she was just 4 years old. They lived in Germany until she was 11, then came to Canada, sponsored by one of our local churches. She speaks fluent Croatian and German, and is certainly no slouch at English as well. A bright student, she’s now in university with the goal of becoming an Occupational Therapist.
She’s a dedicated Christian, and has no greater desire than to love as Christ loves. To that end, about a year before they were married, the two of them joined a short-term missions trip to Haiti. The recent devastation in that country has torn at their hearts, as they recall the people they met there.
Becoming part of our family almost two years ago, M has embraced us as parents, as we’ve embraced her as another daughter. She’s beautiful, loving, disciplined, thoughtful, goal-oriented, full of smiles and hugs. She has certainly made our son happy, and enjoys her life as a wife.
|This is a favorite picture (with her hubby) – as you can see she loves cats too.|
A little late, but …. M we love you, and cherish you, wishing you only the best. Thank you for becoming part of our lives.

Checking out cyberspace friends this morning, as I try to do every morning, and I sit amazed at how much time some of them seem to have to spend on their computers. Some folks blog daily, with tons of pictures – when do they find time to take all those pictures, and then sit down to write about the experience and load the pictures and have it all make sense to the readers?
Then there’s Facebook – an amazingly wonderful way to keep up with daily, and sometimes hour-to-hour activities of all those friends and family that I don’t get to visit with face-to-face. But – hour-to-hour, and sometimes even more??? I know it only takes a minute to enter a quick status, but where do they fit it in and everything else that they’re sharing they’re doing every day?
I guess what’s most amazing to me is that they all seem to accomplish the every-day – housework, cooking meals, jobs, visiting friends and family whether over meals or coffees or at special events. And then there’s the quilters and crafters, who pump out project after project with seeming ease. And some of them have young families – children who need to get to activities, and have help with homework, and schools that need parents to help.
It is all most amazing to me. Each blog I do takes about an hour – maybe I spend just too much time thinking about what I’m saying and how to say it just right and making sure that spelling and grammar and layout and….. Well I’m sure you get the picture.
But talking about pictures – I only wanted to share with you all this morning, the one little project that I completed this week.
Last week, I announced a give-away, but I didn’t tell you all what the give-away was to be – mostly because I hadn’t completely decided. So this is some of what the winner will be getting: in honor of the recent Olympics, and because I AM CANADIAN – a pair of placemats in Canada’s colors, red and white; also a pair of pillowcases made just for you in your favorite color; and a few other goodies. So to get in on the draw – just comment and tell me your favorite color – draw date is coming March 14!
We’re bottling wine today, then out to visit some friends, then celebrating our DIL’s birthday this evening – should fill up the rest of the day.
Have a wonderful day everyone – back again soon, I hope!
